02 - 1 box (3 oz) orange-flavored Jello gelatin dessert
03 - 1 box (3 oz) lemon-flavored Jello gelatin dessert
04 - 1 box (3 oz) lime-flavored Jello gelatin dessert
05 - 1 box (3 oz) berry blue-flavored Jello gelatin dessert
06 - 1 box (3 oz) grape-flavored Jello gelatin dessert
07 - 6 cups boiling water
08 - 6 cups cold water

→ Topping

09 - 2 cups whipped cream or whipped topping
10 - Rainbow sprinkles, to garnish (optional)

# Directions:

01 - In a mixing bowl, combine 1 box grape Jello gelatin dessert with 1 cup boiling water. Whisk thoroughly until the powder is fully dissolved, then mix in 1 cup cold water.
02 - Carefully pour approximately 2 tablespoons of the prepared purple Jello into the base of each clear cup. Refrigerate for 30 to 40 minutes, or until firm.
03 - Successively prepare and layer blue, green, yellow, orange, and strawberry Jello flavors in the same manner, ensuring each layer is fully set before pouring the next. Each layer will require 30 to 40 minutes of chilling time.
04 - Once the final layer has set, dispense whipped cream or whipped topping onto each cup. Garnish with rainbow sprinkles, if desired.
05 - Present chilled cups immediately, or keep refrigerated until ready for serving.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • This is the kind of dessert that stops kids (and grown-ups) in their tracks with its bright colors.
  • Layering the Jello is slow but oddly therapeutic—and you can swap flavors to suit every taste.
02 -
  • If you rush the chilling stage, the colors will blur and ruin your hard work.
  • Adding whipped cream too soon makes it melt into the Jello instead of sitting pretty on top.
03 -
  • If you use glass cups, colors shine more vividly beneath whipped cream.
  • A gentle tip of the cup while pouring helps prevent uneven layering.
