03 - About 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy canes or hard peppermint candies (approximately 6 candy canes)
04 - 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)

01 - Line a 9x13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring after each, or melt gently in a double boiler until smooth.
03 - Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared sheet and spread evenly to approximately 1/4 inch thickness.
04 - Refrigerate for 10 minutes until the dark chocolate layer is set but not fully hardened.
05 - Using the same method, melt the white chocolate and stir in peppermint extract if desired.
06 - Pour the melted white chocolate over the chilled dark chocolate layer and gently spread to cover.
07 - Immediately sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies evenly over the white chocolate layer.
08 - Refrigerate for an additional 20 minutes until the entire bark is fully firm.
09 - Once chilled and firm, break the bark into rough pieces using your hands or a knife.
10 - Store bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
